Happy Belated Birthday Dr. Seuss!

March 4, 2009 at 9:39 am (Uncategorized)

Dr. Seuss Birthday was Monday.  I had planned to have a Dr. Seuss Day to celebrate, but I didn’t have everything together on Monday, so we ended up doing it Tuesday. :^)

We started the morning with Green Eggs and Ham
Yes, I know they look disgusting!  LOL  They actually tasted fine if you could get passed how they looked! (In person they looked a lot more green than they do in the picture.  For some reason they are looking blue in these pics!)

Ready to eat!
The kids were so excited when I told them we were having Dr. Seuss Day that they ran and got their Hop on Pop and Fox in Socks stuffed animals.  Then they decided that they wanted to be called Thing 1 and Thing 2 for the rest of the day!  LOL

After breakfast Thing 1 read Green Eggs and Ham to Thing 2.

Then we made Cat in the Hat hats!

Thing 2 in his hat!

Thing 1 in hers!

Of course you knew this was coming!  LOL

Then we made placemats and bookmarks.

The bookmarks are My Many Color Days and the placemats are Green Eggs and Ham.
I still need to take them and have them laminated. :^)

Thing 1 and Thing 2 also made thank you notes for Dr. Seuss.

Of course we had to read a few of our favorite Dr. Seuss titles!

For snack we made Cat in the Hat hats!
For the brim we used a Nilla Wafer.  Then we layered on red gummy lifesavers with white icing.

Apparently they were tasty!

Making them was fun too!

It’s always more fun if you sit on the table!  LOL

We also read about Dr. Seuss on Wikipedia and did some worksheets about him.  Links to all the printables we used are below.

The kids finished off the day by watching the Dr. Seuss Cake Decorating Challenge we had Tivo’d off the Food Network and Horton Hears a Who on DVD.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! You were born 105 years ago but your books are alive in our homeschool every day!  Your books have earned more space on our bookshelves than any other single author and we one of your titles almost every day!

Happy Homeschooling,

The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

Looks like you had a great day! When Easter gets closer, see if you can find someone nearby who has Americauna or Aurucana chickens–the eggs they lay are green on the outside–no added coloring! Your cuties might just get a kick out of all natural green eggs. They don't taste any different than regular eggs, but they look different!

You continue to amaze me with the abundance of creative and FUN projects going on at your home. I wonder where and when do you find the time to pull all this together. Do you sleep? 🙂
