Yesterday's Art Lesson

September 11, 2009 at 8:06 am (Uncategorized)

8 yo Daughter: "Mom, Look at this picture I am making."

Me:  "Cool!  That reminds me of the works of M.C. Escher."

8 yo Daughter: "Who’s That?"

Me:  "Let me show you."  (Googling Escher)

WOW!  What did we learn?  Just reading about Escher online we discussed tessellation, lithographs, woodcuts, infinity, architecture and MORE!

Now if you ask her what her favorite Escher work is she will tell you it’s Drawing Hands.

My 5 year old joined in on the conversation too.  His favorite is Relativity.  ("I like that one where the people are walking all directions, even upside down!")

Not bad for an unplanned art lesson!

Oh, and in case anyone was wondering my favorite has always been Sky and Water.

If you want to know more about studying art with children you might enjoy this post.

Happy Homeschooling,

P.S. Because I think it is important that we never forget September 11, 2001 I am posting a link to my post from the 5th anniversary of the attacks.  (Click the graphic below to go to it.)

This year we won’t have time to go fly kites on 9/11.  We have a Back to School Party, a house to look at and a camping trip planned.  However we will be sure to remember those who lost their lives on 9/11 and since protecting our country and those who serve our country and protect our freedom.

God Bless America!
